Tell Me About the Lake....

Frequently perspective guests ask for a description of the Long Lake. We are located two miles from Centuria, Wisconsin, and two miles from Balsam Lake just off County Road I. The lake is not very busy. We really like it especially on the weekdays when the loons are out. It is plenty big enough for tubing and waterskiing. Attached are the dimensions of the lake and some pictures. Our cabin is located at the far southeast end of the lake. We have a great sunset view.


The lake is normally clear with small pebbles along the shoreline. We suggest shore shoes for young children. There are other photos of the shoreline in this blog. We have had very good luck with the quality of the lake. However, a lake is a lake and subject to environmental influences that are beyond our control. We rarely have problems with weeds, algae, etc. but we cannot guarantee it. Lakes will be lakes. The DNR and the lake association work on water quality.

Wondering about your young children?

In our VRBO listing, we suggest that the property is not suitable for young children. Often guests inquire why we state that. It's not that we don't like children. In fact, we have many guests with young children in their group. I would suggest you know your children and their needs before you rent Turning Leaf Cottage. We do have an open stairway in the main living area. It is structured so that we cannot put a gate up easily.

Also, we have many accessories out in the property. We prefer that guests do not re-arrange the home and its accessories as it adds much extra time to preparing for the next group coming into the home. We also have a great deal of windows that little fingers can leave full of smudges.


That being said, we don't mind having children in our home. The home is not childproofed. Each family has different expectations and knows their children. We certainly want them to be safe. We ask is that you leave the property as you found it both in cleanliness and placement of furniture and accessories. If you think your children will not handle the stairs well or be safe, perhaps this property is better to be used in a few years when the children are older.

When I am looking for  a place to stay, it is helpful to know what others say about a destination.  This afternoon as I am getting our cottage ready for guests, I noticed our guest books.  Yes, we have two of them.  One is a traditional guest book.  The other is a journal that I put out for guests to draw a picture, share a poem, reflect on an "Ah-Ha" moment, or a quotation.

Bedrooms

We have 4 bedrooms available.  Two of the bedrooms have twin beds.  The twin beds can be joined together to make a king size bed.  Let us know ahead of time what your preferences are. 

Take a look at the bedrooms. Two bedrooms on the main floor. One is a king bed and the other has twin beds which can be joined for a king bed.  On the lower walk-out level there is a queen bedroom and a twin bed room.  Again, we can put the twin beds together for couples.  Those bedrooms on the walkout level have egress windows.

Lovely view of western sky from the deck. Watch the hummingbirds at the feeder. Enjoy dinner on the deck. It is high enough to be level with the tree tops and the mosquitos don't bother you. Gas grill on the deck for grilling.
